One key feature that distinguishes a Poss Mechanical Separator
is the patented Screen Plate Separation Head. This separation
head is made up of a series of screen plates, with the Meat passing
through grooves machined into each plate and the undesired product
passes out through and opening in the front. The screen plate
system results in a superior textured product, offering a wider
range of further processing options. POSS can also configure
any perforated screen configuration
to meet a customer's requirements, and these are completely interchangeable
with the standard screen plates.
Raw Material can normally be input directly into the hopper
of the Poss Machine, without prior pre - breaking, with few exceptions.
Pork or beef bones should be pre-broken through a Poss PPB 15
or 25 Pre-Breaker) to 'fist sized' pieces. There is no need
for a separate grinder or pump to feed the Poss Separation Head,
therefore space requirements and capital outlay are considerably
Low temperature rise during the separation process - normally
1-2 degrees Celsius for chicken, 4-7 degrees Celsius for Turkey,
and around 10 degrees Celsius for Beef, provided the raw material
enters the hopper at 0 to 2 degrees Celsius. Please note although
0-2 Celsius is the optimal input temperature for the raw material,
POSS Separators can process at virtually any input temperature.
Extremely rugged design and construction of the machine,
including a heavy duty thrust housing, independent gearbox, and
in many cases belt drive protection, all designed for ease of
assembly and cleanup. The Poss machine normally weighs twice as
much as any equivalent competitor's machine, for the same throughput
capacity. In the long run, if the machine is properly maintained,
the Poss machine is the least cost alternative in Mechanical Separation.
YIELD: A properly operated Poss machine will recover up
to 95% of the meat available from the raw material entering
the separator. This is a far better measurement of a machine's
performance than an arbitrary claim to achieve a certain yield,
regardless of the raw material.
POSS offers the most versatile Mechanical Separator in the
industry. Many separators are proprietary as to the delivery
system and processing head configuration. Processor's who need
to change products, make better use of scraps and unused trim
or test and experiment with new processes and products will love
using a POSS Separator. As you make changes to your process the
POSS makes changes to adapt. Our delivery system offers different
size feed-screws to insure proper feeding. In the intermediate
part of the process, POSS machines offer an interchangeable pump,
knife or centering device. Any combination of these features offers
you the ability to process anything from bone-in materials to
a soft, meat only product. Our separation
system offers additional versatility with either a screen plate
configuration or a perforated screen (cylinder). No other Separator
offers you so much versatility in one machine.
All mechanical separators operate using the principle of separating
according to physical characteristics in the raw material. Developing
varying pressures through the separator head causes the meat or
other specified product through screen openings (slots or holes)
and the bone, cartilage and/or sinews passes through an "opening"
in the front. The amount of separation is manually adjusted by
moving the tapered surfaces on the front of the de-boning screw
and the restrictor body. The yields achieved with a manual system
are very acceptable however, POSS has developed a better system
to control this 'opening' whereby the restrictor 'floats' at a
given hydraulic pressure setting, (acting like a hydraulic spring),
resulting in superior yields not obtainable through manual adjustment.
Unique to Poss, the Hydraulic Auto Restrictor, designed
and built by Werner Poss, gives further processors the
added assurance, when using their POSS Meat-Bone Separator, that
optimum yields will be obtained while, at the same time, ensuring
calcium levels do not exceed government regulations, due to over
restriction. Experience world-wide with this feature has seen
yield improvements of between 1 ½ % to as high as 4 ½%
over the conventional manual restriction as is available on any
other mechanical separator.
